The origins of Naturhotel Rainer

It all started with a village inn

The future needs a past. And at the Naturhotel Rainer, the past dates back to 1911.

The business known as 'Gasthaus zum Wirt' was taken over in 1934 by Hermine and Adolf Rainer, Hans Rainer's parents. At that time, nobody could have imagined what a great future would be built on this foundation. When the inn was passed on to Hans and his wife Marialuise in 1978, the creation of today's natural gem began.

The couple began the first renovations and a year later opened the 'Hotel Rainer'. Already from the name it is easy to guess how things would develop. Marialuise and Hans ran the hotel for 28 years, until it was taken over by their son Hannes and his wife Kathrin. The time had come to take the next step.

With the aim of preserving traditions and at the same time of meeting guests' needs, Naturhotel Rainer was renovated again, and has been renovated several times since - most recently in Spring 2024. After all, beautiful things take time and the intention was to create something very special here. A place of tranquillity. Of welcome. Of returning to oneself. The building had to blend into the landscape of Val di Giovo as if it had always been there.

"In addition to time and energy, it takes perseverance and love for the individual products that our nature offers us to realise a coherent nature project. [...] Finally you achieve what makes this Naturhotel in South Tyrol what it is: unique, intact and genuine."

Thus, Naturhotel Rainer was created step by step, using wood, stone and glass from the immediate surroundings. The Swiss stone pine wood was harvested directly in the hotel's own alpine pasture - according to Hannes Rainer, this was an 'enormous job', 'but it was also nice to do what some people did in the past'. Thanks to the Swiss stone pine, combined with larch wood, the hotel embraces every guest with cozy warmth. A warmth that tells stories. A warmth that feels like home and extends this homey feeling to everyone who enters Naturhotel Rainer.
